The B.Voc. in Fashion Design is a three-year industry-oriented undergraduate program designed for students who aspire to build a successful career in the fashion and apparel industry. The program blends creativity, technical expertise, and practical learning to help students transform innovative ideas into professionally crafted fashion products.

Following the philosophy of “Learning by Doing,” the curriculum emphasizes extensive studio practice, hands-on workshops, and live design projects. Students gain in-depth knowledge of fashion illustration, textiles, pattern making, garment construction, draping, surface ornamentation, digital fashion design, and collection development. Every stage of the design process—from concept development and material exploration to product creation and presentation—is integrated into the learning experience.

Students work with industry-standard tools and techniques, participate in exhibitions, fashion shows, internships, and collaborative projects, enabling them to develop creativity, craftsmanship, problem-solving abilities, and professional confidence.

The curriculum is aligned with current industry requirements, ensuring graduates are equipped with both technical proficiency and design thinking. Frequently Asked Questions

B.Voc in Fashion Designing is a 3-year degree focused on practical skills and job readiness. Unlike regular degree programs that focus on theory, B.Voc is 60% hands-on training and 40% theory. You learn by doing—sketching, sewing, pattern making, and working on real projects. It’s designed to get you job-ready immediately after graduation. This course is recognized by the government and certified by NSDC.

You need to have completed 12th grade (any stream) with at least 50% marks. Mathematics is not required. You should be at least 17 years old. Most colleges accept Class 12 certificates and ask for a written test or interview. There’s no national entrance exam—admission is based on merit and your aptitude for design.

You’ll learn fashion illustration, pattern making, garment construction, textile technology, fabric selection, CAD software (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator), draping, sewing techniques, fashion forecasting, and merchandising. You’ll also learn about sustainable fashion and traditional Indian textile trends. Most importantly, you work on real projects with brands, not just assignments. By year 3, you have a professional portfolio employers want to see.

The program is 3 years, divided into 6 semesters (2 per year). Each semester is about 6 months. You attend classes 5 days a week. In the second or third year, you do a mandatory 4 month internship at a fashion company or design studio. You can also exit after 1 year with a diploma certificate, or after 2 years with an advanced diploma. The government recognizes all exit points.

IIFD has a 99% placement rate for fashion programs. B.Voc graduates are highly hireable because employers want people with practical skills, not just theory. You’ll have a portfolio with real projects, industry connections, and internship experience. Most graduates get hired as fashion designers, pattern makers, garment technologists, or quality controllers. Some start their own fashion labels.

After B.Voc., you can work as: Fashion Designer, Pattern Engineer, Garment Technologist, Quality Controller, Production Manager, Fashion Stylist, Merchandiser, CAD Designer, or Costume Designer. You can also work in export houses, retail brands, or start your own boutique. Starting salary ranges from 2-4 lakhs per year, increasing with experience and skills. The fashion industry is global, so you can also work abroad.

B.Voc fees typically range from 3.5 – 6 lakhs for 3 years, depending on the college. One big advantage to study in IIFD offers payment plans and some scholarships. Contact admissions for exact pricing.
